Growing Up In De Caribbean - Disciplining Kids
Is the way we discipline kids doing more harm than good, especially in a black dominated society?

Growing Up In De Caribbean - Free As A Bird
Are kids still roaming free and keeping active or has social media taken the element of surprise out of doing anything now?

Growing Up In De Caribbean - Education
Parents need to be more involved in their children's education.

Far too often we hear excuses as to why they can't and don't help out in strengthening their child's minds and with improving their children's chance of success in the world.

Growing Up In De Caribbean - Mishaps & Bad Behaviour
I was not always the nice guy... I have had a few encounters with authority and done a few silly things in the past. These are some of my stories.

Women Don't FAKE It Enough

Women Don't FAKE it Enough.

There is no doubt that lack of opportunities and discrimination exists but some women just don't help themselves to opportunities as much as some under-qualified men do.

Men seem to live by the motto of "Blag your way to the top" while women seem to be more modest in their route to ascending to the top.

I am happy to see that more of the top jobs, particularly in the U.K, having been going to women as I am sure they can and will add value in ways men can't and won't.

If you believe what I am saying is incorrect, then tell me what your opinions are.

London to Carriacou: Episode 1

I recently travelled to Carriacou (a luscious and beautiful island just off of Grenada), the land where I grew up, and had such an amazing time seeing family and friends.
Spent some time on the beaches and enjoyed the warm sunshine as well as the delicious, organic foods and fruits on offer.
I have documented some of the trip in video format so this is episode 1 of a 3/4 part series showing my journey from London to Carriacou via Trinidad.

Hope you enjoy and do feel free to leave comments.

Life Is Black and White

You have got to love a bit of black and white photography... it feels like it brings out the  "pureness" in a subject.

Sometimes in life, we need to extract all the noise around and see what is truly there; experience the message and worry less about the messenger.

The whole point behind me doing these few pics in B&W is in line with the messages I have been trying to share (in my own little way) which is: "as balck people, we need to peel away all the fakeness, noise and distractions in our lives today and focus on what is underneath; find the true message and come to realise that we are truly beautiful and are worth way more than we would be led to believe".

A chair is useless unless someone sits in it. We need to take our rightful places in this world; find our seats at the table.

Don't be afraid to cross boundaries and lines to achieve what you know and believe to be right. "Rules are made to be broken".

Forget about "we come from kings and queens" and be that for your family. Show your children what is right by example.

Finally, when we look at our people, don't just see a blur of faces but instead understand that everyone is an individual and deserve love and respect. We need to STOP fighting our own people and killing each other.

Black Billionaires; Do We Support Our Own?!

Our lives should not be totally dominated by money as this can corrupt the mind and soul but let us not "kid" ourselves, we need money to survive and thrive. Almost gone are the days when we could simply barter a bag of potatoes for a few pounds of fish from our neighbours.

That being said, it is great to see two widely known black people (there are a total of 11) on the current Forbes Billionaire List 2015, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan, and note I am not benefiting monetarily from their situations. It is simply a great inspirational reality and sort of pedestal which other black people can look on for re-assurance that we can get somewhere with hard-work and dedication. Once again, I am not naive enough to think that the world is a bed of roses. I do know racism is still alive and showing its ugly head but I refuse to paint everyone with the same brush.

It is sometimes difficult to understand why we don't have more black people being represented in this "tax bracket". I think in a lot of the cases it comes down to a lack of unity/ togetherness. We have been divided so many times over the centuries and motivated by greed and self fulfilment that we fail to see that if we pool together we can achieve way more.

I think we are sometimes happy to be marginalised and to not be given credit for our accomplishments; whether due to what we think others may say about us ("Oh she thinks she's better than us now") or simply through thinking on such a small scale that we let opportunities pass us by. We need to start supporting each other more; every other race sticks together because they understand that the sum of the parts is greater than the whole (SYNERGY). We act too much like "crabs in a barrel", just pulling each other down when one starts climbing.

Two perfect cases (I know they have their flaws) are Flloyd Mayweather and Kanye West. Very influential guys making waves and defying the power that be but we choose to not try and understand their struggles or see things from their points of view; which sometimes is a reflection of our own struggles... and please don't say "they have money, what problems do they have". Jay-Z said it best; paraphrasing: "You're not best suited to help the poor if you're poor". If no one gives them their praises for their additions to their sectors then why should they not make it known and speak out? (that is a genuine question).
Once again, I am not saying those two are the cream of the crop of black society. When it comes to music and general consciousness, I prefer to listen to guys like Akala (British lyricist and philosopher), etc.

This is NOT about Flloyd and Kanye so don't get stuck on the last paragraph... see the big picture.
Out of over 1,000 billionaires, we have only 11 black people:
  • Aliko Dangote (Nigeria) - $15.7 billion
  • Mohammed Al-Amoudi (Saudi Arabia) - $10.9 billion
  • Mike Adenuga (Nigeria) - $4 billion
  • Isabel Dos Santos (Angola) - $3.3 billion
  • Oprah Winfrey (America) - $2.9 billion
  • Patrice Motsepe (South Africa) - $2.1 billion
  • Folorunsho Alakija (Nigeria) - $1.9 billion
  • Mohammed Ibrahim (British) - $1.1 billion
  • Michael Jordan (America) - $1 billion
  • Femi Otedola (Nigeria) - $1 billion
  • Abdulsamad Rabiu (Nigeria) - $1 billion

Side note: some of these billionaires reside in countries with some of the poorest people on the planet. (food for thought)

Everywhere we live, we are quick to sell out what we have to the short term rewards rather helping out the next generation. Go to most "black" countries and you can purchase their lands and then kick them out of it whereas any other country you go to, predominantly of a different race, the most you can do is rent and even then, you are heavily taxed, etc. Unfortunately, we need to amass way more resources to make major differences in this world; if we are seen as more than just athletes, musicians, thugs and criminals, we can then make a true change.

Question: Why are we not investing more in our ideas, businesses and other resources instead of helping everyone else accomplish their dreams?

Looking forward to hearing from you... OH, and YES, I do believe Caribbean islands deserved repatriation for robbery of resources over the decades. Before you go against this, think of the child who comes from a poor background and the one from a rich; which one gets on their feet, in life, faster? :)

The Stonehenge Megalith

So, I made the trip to Stonehenge :)

Let me start by telling you a secret... it is NOT really a HENGE (the shock and horror).

According to Wikipedia, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henge, "There are three related types of Neolithic earthwork that are all sometimes loosely called henges. The essential characteristic of all three types is that they feature a ring bank and ditch, but with the ditch inside the bank rather than outside."

The ditch at Stonehenge, is outside the structure thus making it NOT a henge :)

There are so many other wonderful facts about the structure (it has been around for thousands of years) and though there is not much to see on that one site in Amersbury, it is well worth the visit. At the time of my visit I was unaware of another structure nearby known as WOODHENGE which is about 2 miles away and is a true henge so you can probably include that in your visit.

These are a few pictures I took of Stonehenge and it's surroundings. As always, hope you enjoy, leave comments and feel free to subscribe to my Blog, Google+ and Youtube

Here is a video I made on my visit to Stonehenge :)

My Beautiful Caribbean Island

Oh my beautiful homeland... how I have missed thee immensely :)

At the beginning of the year, January, 2015, I went to Grenada for a friend's wedding and then went home to Carriacou (pronounced: 'Carry-ah-koo') [13 Square Miles long, neighbouring island] to visit my family and friends and just kick back and relax.

I totally forgot how beautiful my homeland is and I am inviting EVERYONE to go visit.

The following are some of the pictures I took. From left to right:

  • The first two pictures were taken on a beautiful plantation estate in Grenada. The owner was lovely enough to allow my friend to have his wedding reception there (at a cost) and it was utterly spectacular.
  • The remaining pictures were taken around various parts of my homeland Carriacou; the first being of "Sandy Island" from the tiny airplane I took from Grenada to Carriacou.
  • The next three (3) photos were taken around the "Cassada Bay" area and is such a beautiful spot to just gaze from. On a clear day, you can see Grenada in the distance.
  • The next three (3) photos were taken from "Paradise Beach" between Lauriston (where my family lives) and L'Esterre (where I went to primary school)
  • The final three (3) photos were taken on the way to "Belair"; the first showing Petite Martinique in the distance, a lovely, quiet place to visit, the second showing an old windmill used to process sugar, lime or some other local product 'back in the day' and the final picture is of a cactus plant showing the lovely fruit (I guess) we call 'Ma-ti-gwah'.

It was such a lovely trip for me... saw and spent a little time with my FAVOURITE mother :) and some of my really good friends. Cannot wait to visit again.

Anyone wanting to sponsor my next trip home, feel free to let me know ASAP. (If you don't ask, you won't receive)  :)

Weekend stroll about London

Decided to take a stroll about the town and took a few pics of the things I saw and liked.
The pictures are from around Old Street, Brick Lane and Buckingham Palace.

  • You will find lots of lovely places to eat, drink and just relax around Old Street area.
  • Brick Lane is just such a refreshing place... lots of vintage stuff and just quirky, little things which will draw your eyes in.
  • Buckingham Palace is more about grandeur but if you look closely, you can find elements which may have deeper meaning for you.

Got some other cool pics coming soon so give me some feedback and stay posted.  :)

So many cool things to see

So many cool things to see. All we need to do is open our eyes and look around.
These following pictures are from around England (United Kingdom) and Rotterdam (Netherlands) and are some of my fondest memories to date.

Do appreciate life and love everything, everyday :)
